It is curious that with women taking equal place in many walks of life in the developed world; that still they are in the minority when it comes to achievement in other parts of the world.
A woman can be as creative, as intelligent, as knowledgeable, as ethical or as skilful as any man, but somehow men prevent women from competing on equal terms.
Women are controlled and hidden by veils, by walls, by occupation, by silence and by custom because even today, especially today, they are considered as property by men in all parts of the world.
As children they are discouraged, as adults they are controlled, in profession they are demoted, in promotion they are prevented.
It has to be said, to be recognised that even in our civilisation we are subjecting women to a thoroughly modern slavery.
It matters because they can help, they can solve, they can unravel, they can invent, they can fix.
Without their partnership men are only pips and not the grape, the stone and not the plum, the bone and not the flesh.
